MARK MASONS MARK REMEMBRANCE DAY


On Sunday, November 8th, Remembrance Day, many Mark Masons across the North West paid their respects to those who had fallen in conflict since the first World War. In Blackpool, Wigan, Garston, Leyland, Southport and in cities and towns, wreaths were laid at the local cenotaphs. The Provincial Grand Master, Bro. Peter Connolly, the Deputy Provincial Grand Master, W.Bro.Tony Harrison and the Assistant Provincial Grand Master, V.W.Bro.Danny Jones, all laid wreaths from the Mark Province of West Lancashire. WATERLOO


The Provincial Grand Master again attended Waterloo Cenotaph on Remembrance Sunday. This year he was glad to be accompanied by Bro. Christopher Walls, Worshipful Master of Corinthian Mark Lodge, who laid the wreath.

FURNESS


Several members of Furness Mark Lodge no 36 assembled at the Town Hall, Barrow-in-Furness on Sunday morning to participate in the Parade and Remembrance service at the Cenotaph (which means ‘empty grave’). A wreath was laid by W.Bro. Bill Joughin, Pr.G.J.W. witnessed by several other members who were attending as offers of other services and functions. p>Later in the day Jubilee Lodge joined the parade and service at Ulverston. A dozen members marched to the town church for the service and then on to the memorial in Market Square where the wreath was laid by Bro. Dave Helm, WM Jubilee Mark Lodge, alongside a wreath from the local craft lodges.

GARSTON


On a wet Sunday morning a large number of Mark Masons ,Wives, family and friends gathered at the Gaston Cenotaph, to support W.Bro. Dennis Squelch ,ex S.A.S, as he layed a wreath on behalf of South Liverpool Mark Masons who had lost their lives in the service to this country.

Present there were V.W.Bro. Barry Elman, V.W.Bro. Eric Hughes, ex. royal marines, W.Bro. Derek Horrocks, ex. merchant service, W.Bro. Jack Steward, ex navy, and other Ex service brethren. W.Bro.'s Norman Long, Ray Leach, John Kidd, Fred Hunter, Joe Commerford and Colin Svenson, ex Army. We then retired to the Garston Masonic Hall for Lunch which was excelent, which was supported by many more brethren, wives, family & friends.

The raffle we held raised £250 which we will send to the Heroes charity.

WIGAN


On Remembrance Sunday at Wigan Cenotaph Mark Masons representing the Mark Province West Lancashire laid a wreath before one the largest gatherings seen for many years. Significant was the number younger people present at the Act of Remembrance as well as members of the Armed Forces and civic dignitaries. A Civic Service followed in Wigan Parish Church.

The wreath was laid by W Bro. John Warminger of Newton Mark Lodge No. 1003

SOUTHPORT


Once again Southport Mark Master Masons attended the Remembrance Day Service at Southport Cenotaph. This year the Wreath was laid by Bro. Mark Barton, the Junior Warden of Freshfield Mark Lodge No.1007. Mark was delighted to be invited to lay the wreath as his son is a serving member of the Royal Marines and has just returned from a tour of duty in Afghanistan, having previously served in Iraq.

LEYLAND


A small group of Leyland Mark Masons joined the Remebrance Sunday parade and service. This waS the second time that the Leyland group had participated in this event. It was a cold, damp and sombre morning with the Wreath being laid on behalf of all the Mark Masons and Royal Ark Mariners of Leyland by W Bro. Peter Taylor IPM of Aeon Mark Lodge. He Was accompanied by W.Commander David Robinson of Leyland RAM, W.Bro Dougie Little, Provincal Organist and W.Bro Neil Ward, IPM of Leyland Mark Lodge, IPC of Leyland RAM and now the current Scribe.

On Remembrance Sunday the members of the Mark Lodges in Chorley attended the service and were invited to join in the laying of wreaths at the War Memorial. Those in attendance were W.Bro. Geoff Catterall, Prov.G.M.O. Secretary of Lawrence Lodge No.313, W.Bro. Vic Norris, P.Prov.A.G.D.C., DC of New Temple Lodge No.1438, Bro. Harry Mcgarr, Senior Warden of Lawrence Lodge and Bro. John Eccles also of Lawrence Lodge.

WARRINGTON


On Remembrance Sunday the members of the Mark Lodges in Warrington attended the service and were invited to join in the laying of wreaths at the War Memorial.
