With wonderful weather conditions for a change, family and friends were invited to join him for his magnificent celebration and share his achievement of 100 years of age.

With about forty guests he received many cards and congratulations and as is usual, he had received a message of congratulations from Her Majesty, Queen Elisabeth II which he was obviously very delighted and proud to receive.

One very unexpected delight happened when the Assistant Provincial Grand Master of Cheshire Province (Craft) Stephen Christian arrived wearing his chain of office and presented Jim with a certificate from the Deputy Provincial Grand Master in Office of the Province to celebrate his 100th birthday and also an additional certificate stating that the Province of Cheshire had donated, appropriately, £100 to the MCF in Jim’s name.
Jim’s jaw dropped below his knees as this was such a surprise and he was totally unaware that the Province even knew of his birthday let alone honour him by requesting such a high-ranking Provincial Officer to represent the Province at this special event in Jim’s life.

It was soon time to partake of the buffet which the family had organised for his birthday and then on to the resume’ of his life which was delivered by one of his long time Masonic friends, W. Bro Jim Hardman who not only touched on his home and civil life but on the many events in his Masonic Career. He highlighted that Jim has been a Mason in many orders for 67 years from his initiation into Ancient Union Lodge 203 in West Lancashire to his association with the Province of West Lancashire and Cheshire. Many of you will recall that that when Walton Lodge of MMMs 161 was elevated to the Wet Lancs Provincial Steward’s Lodge, Jim, who was a subscribing Brother at that time took the office of Worshipful Master, yet again and you will all recount how well he performed in that role. He recently became an Honorary Member and although he finds it difficult to travel the long distances to be at their meetings, his thoughts are always with us and he is proud of all his Masonic achievement.
Finally, as all good things must come to an end, it was time for Jim to blow out the candles and cut his birthday cake. He didn’t quite manage to blow them all out but it was managed eventually with aid.

One very last thing about Jim’s party was to congratulate Jim’s sister, Carol who with the help of the family put on this wonderful party to celebrate 100 years of a very full life.
