The warm welcome that greeted all arriving at Ulverston Masonic Hall for the meeting of Jubilee Mark Lodge No 375 was in stark contrast to the miserable weather endured on the journey to the meeting.
Kieron Mullan and Steve Ellershaw
A total of 23 members and guests had left the comfort of the fireside and braved the inclement metrological conditions to be in attendance.

The main business of the evening was an explanation of the tracing board of the order. WM Steve Ellershaw introduced Kieron Mullan from The Furness Mark Lodge No 36, who then proceeded to undertake the work in his customary excellent fashion. It was appreciated by all who watched on.
Rowly Saunders and Derek Pallister
Circumstances had dictated that the lodge required to appoint a new Register of Marks and Rowly Saunders was appointed and invested as such. Derek Pallister, who had ben advanced at the November meeting, had made such an impression he was made a steward. As a steward he, of course, has to cover for missing officers and was immediately called into action as senior deacon!

The visitors included Nigel Higginson of Garnett Mark who covered for the inner guard who was absent due to a family commitment. Geoff Waters of The Furness Mark was on hand to play the organ. Other visitors present included  the provincial grand treasurer Peter Taaffe and provincial grand registrar Tony Thackrah.

At the meal following the meeting it became apparent that it was approaching Yuletide as in addition to the usual pie and peas there were mince pies on offer. There was, as is the norm, a happy buzz of chatter and camaraderie filling the dining room.

The foundation stone for Ulverston Masonic Hall was laid by Myles Kennedy on 31st October 1905. He was one of the Furness ironmasters, a J.P. and High Sheriff of Lancashire. The front row of chairs to the right of the WM are reserved for grand officers and other senior figures. These chairs were in fact presented to Jubilee Mark Lodge by Bro. Myles Kennedy in 1888, a year after the lodge was formed. Obviously this pre-dates the present masonic hall and must have been in situ in one of the other buildings they used over the years.
The inscription on the chairs
So from that it can be argued that the senior figures in all the degrees when at Ulverston Masonic Hall are being made comfortable by the Mark degree.
