West Lancs Masonic Classic Car Club

The West Lancashire Masonic Classic Car Club – what is it?

A group of individual masons and their partners and
friends with a shared interest in vehicles and having
a good time, to join you don’t need an expensive old
car or Provincial rank.

A classic vehicle is a car, van etc. which has an
interesting place in the development of your view of
motoring, usually one you enjoy driving. The most
useful definition of a Classic Car is one used by many
insurers of a vehicle used for recreation.

Right: "Lunch stop on a driving day."

Age is irrelevant, either of the vehicle or the driver. I
first realised this when I drove an XJS Jaguar and one
of our new staff said it was a classic, it was only
about 4 years old, but the cars don’t have to be
expensive, the enduring icons of Classics include the
Morris Minor, Mini Moke, VW Beetle and Citroen 2CV
all of which were highly affordable family cars,
perhaps the list should now include the Toyota
Corolla and early Nissan Micra.

Rarity does not make a Classic car in fact often it is
the popular car of a few years ago which is now
rediscovered, consider the early Fiat 500’s.

So if you join the Classic Car Club what do you do?

Well whilst members may be interested in
maintaining and restoring their cars this is an
individual activity and driving is restricted to family
and friends so we get our cars out and go somewhere
nice to meet up and chat.

This is usually over a nice meal but occasionally
during summer at a Country Show and once a year
there is a weekend away in the Lakes.

Left: "The chairman and his Herald."

Why would you want to join?

You meet interesting people who share your interests in freemasonry, cars and other motor vehicles and
having nice days out with the family. You will add a new dimension to your freemasonry as members are
drawn from across the Province and not just your local group of Lodges and Chapters and your family can
come as well.

If you are wondering come and meet us, perhaps at the AGM in Leyland on the 20th of January 2012

– at least someone else will cook the Sunday Lunch.
